Shopping Guide in Eastern Market near Downtown Detroit: a Great Saturday Experience

Detroit is a large city with many places for sightseeing, dining, and shopping. Downtown Detroit is inundated with series of stores where you can shop a lot.

A great way to spend an early Saturday morning in late summer in Downtown Detroit is to go to Eastern Market. This is the time when all the vegetables and fruits are ripe, and you can buy from chicks and ducklings to exotic flowers and foreign spice packets.

Eastern Market is the biggest historic community market district in the US which is open on all Saturday from 5am to 5pm. It is baffling and chaotic to steer through the market but it is fun to bargain on plants and wholesale meats. More than 150 vendors and farmers from Ohio, Michigan and Canada sell variety of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, cheeses, jams, spices, plants, herbs and flowers in this open air market. The farmers are open for dealing with the consumers to provide the best deal. There are also many great restaurants, retail shops and wholesalers surrounding the market that can be browsed through.

Prices are up for grabs. Prices differ between vendors. So look around other shops too. Prices go down towards the closing time because the vendors do not want to pack up unsold products.

Parking is free, but unruly and chaotic. So you can park anywhere you want.
