A Listing of Top-Rated Schools in Detroit
Detroit schools were ranked for the first time ever in August, 2010 and included the public, private and charter schools. This ranking comes as a huge help to parents in search of good schools for their kids in the Detroit area. On the flip side this exercise will also force the failing schools out of competition.
Excellent Schools, Detroit is a broad based coalition of the area schools and has been responsible in producing the listing mentioned above. The list produced has itself been divided into 3 categories, elementary, middle and high schools. The ranking of schools were achieved by using test scores as well as other relevant data over a three year time frame.
40 schools figure at the bottom of the list because of their low achievement and the sweeping academic reforms being implemented should help improve the performance from these schools. Though some schools in the area have managed to stay at the top, with some 90% schools, the data is none too encouraging.
As of now, for parents seeking admission into Detroit schools for their wards, the situation is somewhat overwhelming. Overwhelming because, there are fewer schools that provide quality education and getting admitted in to these schools is not an easy exercise.
Among the best schools to consider are The Private University of Detroit Jesuit, Cass Technical High School and Detroit Public Schools' Renaissance.
The Excellent schools initiative is expected to change the scenario substantially over the coming decade or so, but for the present parents remain a concerned lot.
