Detroit is a city of many wonders and pleasures and one of these happens to be the Detroit Public Library. The Detroit Public Library is a well-known establishment. It holds the distinction of being the biggest library system in the state of Michigan.
The Detroit Public Library has garnered the position of being one of the most wide spread public library systems owing to its 24-part chain. The main library has been built on the address 5201 Woodward Avenue and there are twenty-three other branches of the Library that can be found in Detroit. The main branch is also home to the administrative offices of the library.
The Library was established in the year 1865. The timings of the Library vary through the week. The current location was formalized on the 21st of March, 1921. The different branches that we see today were inaugurated in the year 1963. On Tuesday and Wednesday the library remains open from noon to 8:00 PM. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the library remains open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
To facilitate visitors, the board has taken a number of enabling steps. For example, on Tuesday and Wednesday one can avail of free of charge parking facilities after 5:30 in the evening. Saturday brings with it the bonus of parking through the day on the parking grounds at Putnam.
The library has a diverse form of media in use, ranging from books and manuscripts to DVDs and electronic reader devices.
