
Guide to Hands-on Galleries in Detroit Children's Museum
Children's museums are the institutions that exhibit and allow children to learn through various programs. The basic intention of the museum is to impart education, inspire, and nurture creativity of children. Detroit Children's museum is one the six museums which were established in 19th century and it holds third position.
The museum is run by Detroit Board of Education and Detroit Science Center. It contains hands-on galleries of art, history, science and cultures of different parts of world. Different classes and workshops are held to various school groups and families.

It consists of relics of prehistoric creatures, models of ancient masks, costumes, and dolls from different part of world and remaining of Civil war. There is a display of animals that have fur, feathers, skin or scales where children can touch and feel them. For various live programs like puppet shows, the museum has its own theatre. The museum also features extensive collection of crystals and rocks displayed under magnifying glass.

Very recently new classroom spaces for groups, artifacts and hands-on arts, activity stations were added in the museum. The museum includes various live entertainment, planetarium shows, exhibits etc. Staff in DCM is working hard to revitalize the 50 year old dioramas in museum so that it becomes fun and enjoyable for children.

The museum would reopen again in month of June with many science shows, face paintings, art activities etc which is led by Arts & scraps and Eastern Market Family Farmer's Market. Entry would cost $4 for an adult and $2 for a child.
