The Detroit Zoo, short for the Detroit Zoological Park, is located in Royal Oak, Michigan. It is home to almost 7,000 animals representing over 270 different species, including 1,800 vertebrates and 5,000 invertebrates.

Originally opened its door in 1883, the Zoo has strived to offer an impressive experience to its visitors from generation to generation. Over the years, the Detroit Zoo has participated in various plans and programs to protect and conserve remarkable animals that are endangered or threatened.

As a staple of the City, the Detroit Zoo is situated at the northwest of the intersection of Woodward Avenue and 10 Mild Road. Its address is known as 8450 West 10 Mile Road Huntington Woods, Michigan.

Actually, the Detroit Zoo is also home to a number of exhibits. For driving visitors, directions play a significantly important role in enhancing their visit experience. To avoid getting you and your family members or friends lost, keep reading to find out the best route for you arrive at the Zoo.

From the East or West - Keep straight on I-696 until you see the Exit 16. Take the Exit and turn onto Woodward Avenue. When you come across Main Street, turn onto it. Stay on Main Street and the Detroit Zoo is not far away.

From I-75 North or South - After taking the Exit 61, turn onto I-696. Head west on I-696 and then take the Exit 16. And follow the direction given above.

From I-94 - If you're taking I-94 east, keep traveling east on I-94 and then turn onto I-275. Head north on I-275. When you see I-696, turn onto it. Proceed on I-696 and then take the Exit 16 to get to Woodward Avenue. Follow Main Street for a while and you can see the Zoo in minutes.

From I-94 - If you're heading west on I-94 now, remember to turn onto I-696 and keep going west. Take Exit 16 to turn onto Woodward Avenue. Follow Woodward Avenue to Main Street. Proceed straight on Main Street and you will see the Zoo within minutes.

From I-96 - Proceed on I-96 toward I-696. Then turn onto I-696 and keep going east. Take the Exit 16 to follow Woodward Avenue to Main Street. Continue on Main Street for a while and you will be the Zoo in several minutes.

From I-75 - If you're traveling north on I-75, remember to proceed from I-75 Fisher Freeway to Chrysler Interchange. Then keep going north and turn onto I-696. After exiting #16, take Woodward Avenue toward Main Street. Go ahead and the Zoo would show up after a couple of minutes.

From I-75 - If you're heading south on I-75, then you will need to take the Exit 16 after proceeding straight on I-696. Then take Woodward Avenue to turn onto Main Street. Follow Main Street and you will reach the Zoo very soon.

Driving visitors should also make it a point to do some research about parking in and around the Zoo before trips. The Detroit Zoo offers its visitors a huge garage which is located on the eastside of the zoo and several small parking lots. You are strongly recommended to park in the lot behind the garage as it's very close to entrance. Otherwise, it might take you at least 5 minutes to walk to an entrance.

Parking Tips:Parking would be charged 5 dollars per car and you will be asked to pay for parking when you purchase ticket at the Zoo's admission booth. If you happen to park your vehicle on level 3 of the Zoo's garage, then you can get to the ground level of the Zoo through a ramp.
