Detroit Children's Museum
Your travels in Detroit will introduce you to its many splendors and marvels. And the sights and sounds of this great city are not the sole prerogative of adults only. Children and younger people can also have plenty of fun in Detroit. Such as spending a day exploring the many wonders of the Detroit Children's Museum, located on the Second Avenue.
The museum dates back to as early as 1917 when it was founded as a collaborative venture between the Museum of Art and the Michigan Board of Education. Many new attractions have been added to the museum's inventory since then and today, it is a source of fun-filled learning for children and adults alike. The museum provides a great opportunity for all its visitors to understand themselves and also get to know the world around them a little better.
Watch your kids have the time of their life as they explore the sprawling galleries of the museum that feature, among other things, a mounted Royal Bengal tiger, an aviary, an art gallery, artifacts made by American Indians and countless other objects and curiosities of natural history. Indeed, it's an unforgettable trip for just about anybody where the learning never ends and the fun never stops.
The Planetarium is a major attraction in the museum and shows like the "Autumn Constellations" with demonstrator Carrie Zaitcz are especially popular.
There are no charges for general admission to the museum. However, prior reservation is required for special shows and events, and there are some nominal activity fees per program, viz. $5 for non-members and $3 for members. So plan in advance when you travel to Detroit.
One of the primary aims of setting up Detroit Children's Museum was to promote a general interest in the arts, especially among the younger members of the local community. To this end, the museum also hosts instructional classes for the community and organizes many after-school activities for children.
