
A Great Intro to Detroit Symphony Orchestra: The Fourth Oldest Orchestra in America
Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is among the oldest orchestras in America and is based in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Detroit Symphony Orchestra mainly performs at the Music Center of Max M. Fisher. It is a popular orchestra and its performance is attended by approximately 450,000 spectators. They have also steadily performed at the educational concerts for children without any charge from its inception in 1926. The orchestra was first established by women from Detroit. Their first music director was Weston Gales and the debut show was held at Detroit Opera House on 26th February, 1914.
Max M. Fisher Center not only hosts shows by DSO but other pop, jazz shows as well. This Center constitutes the Orchestra Hall which can accommodate 2000 spectators and is equipped with state of the art technology. There is a Music Box which affords facilities to record live performances. The Robert A. and Maggie Allesee Rehearsal Hall hosts plays and events for 300 people. There are also Paradise Cafe and Herman and Sharon Frankel Donor Lounge. The Pincus Music and Education Center is divided into music library, rehearsal spaces, studios, conference rooms and offices.
Leonard Slatkin is the present Music Director of the DSO. The DSO offers special packages to the guests like the Whitney package which consists of special show passes and dinner.
